"Bamboo" Knife Nigh Finished

This is the last knife I will ever make form mild steel. The entire knife is fairly cheaply made; the pins and blade are both mild steel, the handle is oak that i found and in vain tried to carve it in a bamboo pattern. Anyway just wanted some comments on it... I personally like the blade shape for some reason... i just took it to the grinder and moved it around a bunch and thats what came out. Thanks for looking!

Edit: Oh yeah bolster is mild steel too. Such an absent mind...

I bet you did learn not to use mild, all that work and you still don't really have a knife . For the bolsters and pins mild steel is perfectly fine though, not the fanciest material but perfectly functional.

The handle carving could use some practice, but concidering carving is pretty difficult and few makers ever even try, I'd say it's a good effort and keeping at it will be rewarding in the long run. Check out some of Tai Goo's carved wooden handles, they're similer in style to yours with carved rings rather then fluting, knotwork, or stuff like animal heads. Some people are down on oak because of the plain grain and large pores, but for a non-fancy knife I think it's perfectly fine since it's a good sturdy hardwood.

I like your blade shape too, good working knife style. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

I tried to style the bolster after Tai's integrals too, but the scanner didnt really do to good with that. Yeah the handle isnt quite finished yet I disagree on the point that it needs a little work- it needs A LOT. ANyway keep commenting and ill post another pic when the knife is done. Criticism very much welcome.

What AwP said, plus I would add that the handle gives the appearance of being on upside down because of the piece that sticks up on the very end. To me, it looks like that is intended to act as a guard and should be on the bottom side of the handle. Anyway, I bet you learned a lot from that project so it wasn't a total waste of your time.....
