Ok...so to recap. We are having a non-judged, knife making "contest". Start the beginning of January and end the last day of March. Photoblog each stage if you can. Theme and guidelines are: 10" max. length, EDC, synthetic handle, carbon steel, and full-tang. Be as fancy as you like but all makers are welcome to participate. In the end, if you want to enter your effort into a KITH, then we can consider that as an option. Is this okay for everyone? Anything I missed?

Time frame: Jan 1, through March 31.
Materials restriction, no stainless, Damascus, or pattern welding.
75% Synthetic handle, full tang.
Photo blog suggested, but not required.
Theme: Every Day Carry (EDC) knife.
Extra challenge (Optional): Make the knifes for cutting ONLY, having a minimal or no tip or point.
If you wish to make your own micarta or other handle material feel free to do so.
I'll start a new thread for the beginning and end of the contest.

I don't do synthetics or blunt tip knives, but if anyone is interested in what I'm working on now I'm taking pics along the way.

Eli, your handle work always impresses. You've got more patience with a drill press than I hope to.

Thanks! It must be done on a blade that small if there is any hope at all for it to end up balanced.

Hmmmm, A Non Pointy Knife....All I've been able to envision is a butter knife. How bout y'all? Anyone come up with anything? Trying to decide if I wanna go with 1080 for this or something else. I might even snag a chunk of 52100. How many folks plan to participate?

I might be in. We'll see how busy I am. I'm a natural handle material guy so it sort of hinges on if I can find something synthetic I like.
But other than that, super easy. Carbon steel with blunt tip? Straight razor.

Sorry fellas but my knives, for now, will have a point. I need to work on the basics as that's enough to push my envelope.

Not sure I can do this but have some input. Jan 1. is the start that would be asking people to buy supplies during Christmas season. That could be very tight for some. Jan. 15th would better, get in an extra payday. Also I no this was brought up but it is not clear in the rules we would of had to read most of the thread, so can you clarify the 75% is that min. or max. how will this be determined? Not sure I understand the lack of having a point. What would be the point??
