welcome new guys.
im going to edit the first post to include a list of everyone who has signed up, if i fgorget you just let me know. I'll also add all the rules as their decided. and in answer to pete, i think holiday theme would be nice but not necesary, perhaps something subtle even like, maybe green scales or scales of wood from the tree mistletoe comes from. brett |

OK guys list and rules added.
we need to decide as a group if we want to try to make it a christmas suprise? i always like to read progress reports and see pictures so thats a concern. really theres only two ways i can think of doing it. 1. dont post pics and info(might make things boring) 2.have a secret list so you dont know who is sending one to you. so what do you think guys, no suprise , plan 1 or plan 2 brett |

Brett,
Mistletoe is a parasite on other trees. I don't think I have ever seen a bunch that would have made scales. I am forming an idea for this one. These KITH's keep coming up as I'm thinking of doing a blade in that style. I guess that means warped minds think alike I can go either way. If you do #1, you will know what is in the box when you get it due to the address label. --Carl __________________ --Carl N-T Porkin' Pig Price ?? Brett,
You can kill the question marks, I know I will end up in sooner or later, so might as well jump in now --Carl __________________ --Carl N-T Porkin' Pig Price ?? KN Auctions to help a member in need and score a GREAT deal! ?? |

Brett,
Just my .02 but as a KITH noob, I'll need help/feedback. Plus it's fun to see the knives progress. Having a secret list might be the ticket. That way we can still post pics etc. Your call. Pete Parsons Helena, MT Parsons14@MT.net |

I agree with Pete. Secret draw. The host should play Santa and do the draw. He should be the only person with knowledge of who gets what. After the draw, email or PM the participants and tell them who to send their entry to--simple.
I suggest gift wrapping. __________________ Andy Garrett https://www.facebook.com/GarrettKnives?ref=hl Charter Member - Kansas Custom Knifemaker's Association www.kansasknives.org "Drawing your knife from its sheath and using it in the presence of others should be an event complete with oos, ahhs, and questions." |

I also agree to the secret draw, but how does the host get a surprise?

A bit of a tricky problem. I like the idea of a Christmas morning surprise/secret Santa. It would be hard to keep it a surprise when the person receives the package with the mailer's name on it.
As for mistletoe, remember it toxic. I know the berries are and I believe the rest of the plants are too. Jim __________________ I cook with a flair for the dramatic, and depraved indifference to calories |

I have an idea here... I recall that in the toast cutter thread everyone had sent their toast cutters to Coop for photos and then he sent them along. Why not pick a delegate to send everything to and have them sent out from there? It would take a little extra shipping, but it might be worth it to get that surprise.

All these ideas are good and would seem to work. Brett, it's your barbeque, so you have to decide.
I think we should maybe keep it simple during the silly season though by posting pics (if you so choose) of the knife in early stages or just a peice of the knife in a close-up. Let's just 'tease' each other until after the deadline and then post the pics once everyone has actually opened their new knife and enjoyed the surprise. We could start a thread for those pics like we did for the newbie KITH. It might make for some real fun photography too! (i.e., "This is your knife under a hat." or "THis is you knife in the dark." or "Here's a shot of the block of wood that will be your new handle.") I see a whole 'roaming gnome adventure materializing here! I'll agree with Andy and Pete......

That sounds good to me too. The idea aout two groups and picking etc... sounds WAY too complicated/too much work for the simplicty of a KITH. Teasing pics sounds fun too....... i was thinkin the two groups could work without too much hasel, or else one group with the host getting no suprise would work too. and as for senders name people could put the sender as their wife or son or something, that way its still a suprise but any probs with post and it will still find its way home. only prob there is people knowing what state everyone is from. and who ever got mine would know in a flash, due to the fact it was sent via Australia post. i do like the idea of the teaser pics though, could ad an element of fun to the thing, especially if you throw in curve balls like show a peice of micarta then have reindeer bone handle. everyone give your 2 cents and i will post a rule on what i think is the general concensus on the first of next month brett |
