You are correst about the methods . A friend of mine did blueing on the side years ago and i still remember how he hated doing double barrel shot guns because they had to be resoldered. I do know that his blueing was the best i have ever seen except for the chrome blueing that was done on Sakos.
Do you think the rust blueing method i spoke of with the boiling water will hurt the temper in my knife? I did that blueing method on an old 1858 Remington .44 and it came out black (Blue) and very beautiful. Alot of work and time consumming but it's great.Thanks for your info, Mike |

Rust bluing only heats the metal as hot as boiling water (220* or less) and it won't change the temper of your knife.
I think when done right rust bluing is also the prettiest of all the bluing methods. Just remember to have fun and I look forward to seeing your knife, be sure to post some pics for us if you can. T L |
