O-1 drill rod

I just purchased a couple of sticks of 1" O-1 drill rod. Has anyone ever worked with this stuff before? I assume everything you would associate with O-1, but is there anything in particular about drill rod that makes it different.

It's round.

Other than that it is still O1

01 drill rod that is precision ground is expensive, 01 drill rod that is oversize is completive with other high carbon steel, ask the supply which one he stocks. Gib

Like George said, it's round and it's still O1. What makes drill rod different from plain steel rod is that it is a precision diameter because it's intended for making drill bits (hence the name 'drill rod'). It's available in virtually every size in which drill bits are available, both fractional and numbered sizes. Probably in metric too but I have never looked for that....

Well I bought some to try and forge some internal bolster knives. I bought 9' of it at 1" for 64 dollars. I've never forge round stock before so I figured I would give it a shot and see what happens.
