Need Help Ray or anyone
I have my oven running and some parks 50. I have some 1095/15n20 damascus to heat treat. What temp do I use? How long? and what temper temp to begin with? I'll sharpen pre handle and test the edge with a brass rod then dull and finish. Thanks for any help. will heat the parks to 150f then quench tip down very quickly.

1475 - 1500 should do it pretty well. I'd hold it about 5 minutes at temperature, maximum. Try tempering at 425 to begin with. Good luck ...

Don't heat the parks. Suppose to be used at room temp. If ya heat it you will start cracking blades

Room temp might be more like 75 then. My Tough Quench does suggest 150 F but I've never seen the info on Parks 50 .
Be sure that you are ready to temper as soon as the quench is complete and the steel has cooled to, ahem!, room temperature. Do not wait any longer than you must to get it in the tempering oven. As for grinding, I would do it after but many do at least some of the grinding before HT. If you decide to grind before leave the edge at least as thick as a dime and grind thinner after ... |

Gary just showed me a website that says Parks 50 is intended to work between 50 - 120 F so if you used the 75 I suggested you should be fine ...

I got the room temp from Caffrey. When I was ordering my quench oil I was conversing with him and Kelly on what to get. Said he heated the parks and quenched a 52100 blade and got spider cracks on the edge. I don't have parks yet. Just going by what he told me. Good luck Austin
