Thread
Being thread prices are out of control and Mike is trying the hungarian thread to what appears to be good reviews I have a couple questions that have probably been answered at some point and i didnt pay attention or ignorance got the better of me.
When they say Left twist, is this only really important when it comes to sewing machines? Im assuming so. If not what differance would it make for hand stitching. Also is waxed poly thread worth trying for hand stitching ala, Cabellas speady stitcher thread? __________________ Romey Cowboy inc Keep a light rein, a foot on each side and a faraway look http://www.highcountryknives.com |

Romey, I don't think the twist has much to do with hand sewing. It's more for the machines and I think the twist refers to the direction it comes off the cone. Some machines are pretty finicky about the twist thing. As to waxed Poly, I think it's okay but a lot of the hand sew guys seem to like linen thread. Mike Bartol (MTMike) and Dave Cole (DC Knives) and, of course, Chuck Burrows could advise you better than I can.

Thanks Paul, its what I assumed sorta like baling twine on a baler in ways, anyway thats how i envisioned it,lol
I have been using those 25 ft rolls of waxed linen thread Tandy sells ,only becuase i reached up to the barbours 5 cord and seen the pricetag under my arm, #### arm kinked on me and went to the 5$ price tag of the tandy. Now that im doing more and more leather work though Im going to have to get bigger rolls of whatever I do get, I suppose the amount in barbours bail of thread will last me a lifetime for the price though. __________________ Romey Cowboy inc Keep a light rein, a foot on each side and a faraway look http://www.highcountryknives.com |
