Knife Storage

How do you store your knives and keep them "new?"

Here in Utah we don't have a problem with humidity, I even store most of my knives in their sheaths. Will get a bit of tarnishing on brass or N.S. but have never had a problem with corrosion on a blade, SS or tool steel, though, as you can guess, tool steel has not been seen a lot around here.....

I'm told that a dehumidifier helps solve the problem in high humid areas. Then there is the problem of too dry, natural handles can shrink/warp.....

Anyone got some good solid advice? NOt wise to store them in sheaths if it's damp, that's for sure. How about zipper cases, or wrap them in silicone cloths, just cotton cloths, Renaissance Wax, spray them with WD-40, wipe with CLP-types of protectants, etc.?? But we don't want to get oils on natural materials, even some Micarta handles will take on oil stains.

Thanks for your advice.

Picked up some "Sack Ups" from Alpha Knife Supply. http://www.alphaknifesupply.com/cases.htm

They should be great for storage, since they're a heavy sock-like material with one end sewn closed and the other end has a velcro fastener inside the opening and treated with silicone. Great product! I saw an envelope-style of "Sack Ups" somewhere that would be good for a knife, also.
