cast iron question
I want to know if molten cast iron will adhere to steel if the steel is preheated and fluxed,
just as in brazing- but I'm not trying to braze, just wondering if the two would stick. It's just an idea for an anvil project. Thanks |

What you can do is to weld the cast iron to the steel. You have to pick a welding rod designed for this.

Hey Mete- Yeah, I'm aware of that option, with nickle rod I believe, or I could braze it, but I'm only interested in pouring the cast iron, not welding it, otherwise there would be no benefit to using cast iron.
It appears that Fisher (of Fisher anvils fame) obtained a patent for this type of weld where the cast iron anvil body was poured onto the steel face plate and a perfect weld between the two resulted. |
