Older Neo-Tribal Cat Food Knife
This is a knife I made several years ago in college. I don't remember what the steel was, but it would have been either coil spring or leaf spring salvaged from automobiles. The bolster is copper electrical bus bar, the handle is mesquite wood from the family farm. The black fiber spacer material and the epoxy were the only non-scavenged materials.
I made this for my mother to open cat food sacks with. I check it when I'm at home and sharpen it when it needs it. One of the aspects that really makes a work Neo-Tribal to me is an indefinable sense of "artifact-ness". Given that this was made with a particular job in mind for a particular person using in part material from the land they live on, it definitely covers the artifact nature of being a Neo-Tribal Metalsmith knife for me. __________________ The Wasteland Crow Project: http://wastelandcrow.blogspot.com A blog I share with a friend where we think out loud upon occasion: http://shareourcampfire.blogspot.com/ Proud to be a Neo-Tribal Metalsmith scavenging the wreckage of civilization. Very cool knife, reminds me a bit of some late Roman pieces.... definantly has the 'artifact' quality you speak of, even without knowing the origins of the materials.
