I usually can be found on the golf course in the summer. Giving my knuckles time to grow new skin.

Well, I work at night too.

Ground out my first tapered tang last night (much to my nieghbor's annoyance). That new magnet of mine makes it sooooo easy! I'm excited to get this one done! Many firsts for me will be achieved on this blade!

Stay tuned.

Andy

Well Mitchell, as you can see there are plenty of people just watching and waiting for someone - anyone - to say something. My theory on why there is so little activity is that everyone already knows everything because we do such a good job here od educating new knife makers, and they all found out that the Search can be faster than posting a question........well, it's just a theory....

Ray, I think you hit the nail on the head.
I lurk alot here, but mainly use the search function.
Of all the knife forums I frequent, this is bye FAR the most informative for knifemaking.

Speaking of HOT!
It was sooooo hot here today, I went to Burger King, and they said if I wanted it my way, I'd have to cook it myself!

Yup been a tad hot here as well... though I now call the wife 30 minutes before I leave from work , have her open the shop doors and windows and fire up the swamp cooler...by the time I get home , eat and change clothes the shop is nice and cool...and I am actually getting work done

I've heard of swamp coolers, but I've never actually seen one. What are they and how do they work? I'm kinda picturing a combination of a fan and a humidifier, but I could be way off base.

Jigh temperature here in the deep forest this year has been 88 degrees. Yesterday, the tmperature was 34 in the morning and 78 by late afternoon, a swing of 44 degrees in one day. I have seen a temperature swing of 50 degrees in a day in years past but it's rare.

No swamp coolers here, and no air conditioners either, not in the cabin, the shop, or in either of my trucks. Don't need 'em. Because of that and a little careful planning, my electric bill runs from $35 to $50 per month all year around. That's with all my shop equipment and some electric heaters I use to maintain the temperature at night. Hope the heat isn't getting to you guys too much....

swamp cooler is basically a box ( usually metal ) with either 3 or 4 straw mats on the sides.... water is pumped up and let run down thru the straw mats... ( creating a controlled waterfall effect inside the box ) in the center of the box is a fan that draws air in thru the water soaked mats and blows it into the vents.... if you have high humidity already , then a swamper will make it worse , though here in Vegas when it is around 115 , the humidity is like 5% so the swamp cooler works really well to cool the shop. Though you do have to be careful as anytime you throw moisture in the air , rust forms on the bare metal surface of stuff in the shop ( I havent had a major problem with this yet ).

Thanks for explaining it. There tends to be a decient amount of humidity in Ohio, that's probably why I haven't seen any.
