My first hidden tang knife

I bought this blade at the Austin knife show the other day:



And I took this old chunk of dried cedar from a vacant lot:




and a 2005 buffallo nickel, and made this knife:








This picture shows my crappy soldering skills:



Anyway, thought I would share. I think the concept was valid, but I failed a little on execution. But hell... I'm learning and having fun.

BTW, I call this one "Spare Change"

I like the use of coins in knife construction. Some nice looking wood was hiding under that shaggy bark. Cedar is easy to burn and carve. Looks like a nice canvas to try some of that out on. Good choice on the blade.

I tried to do the exact same sort of handle, but mine didn't turn out nearly as well as yours. I just ended up with a bent tang and two ruined old buffalo nickels.
