Exclamation Just figured out a neat trick for applying epoxy

The messiest part of knifemaking so far (besides explaining the fine layer of black and red dust on EVERYTHING in the garage) is the mixing and applying of the 2 part epoxy. Especially when trying to fill a tang hole in a hidden tang knife. Yesterday, I adopted something I saw when my wife was watching the food network.

I put the two parts of the epoxy inside a ziplock bag in the bottom corner. I then mixed it through the bag with my fingers by what I believe goes by the technical term of "mooshing". By twisting off the corner that the epoxy was in, I was able to get a good mix and keep the epoxy in one place. Then, when I was ready to apply it, I just used some small scissors and cut off a teeny bit of the corner of the bag. I was then able to inject the epoxy in the tang hole, and not have it go anywhere I did not want it to. When I was done, I just threw the bag and leftover epoxy away.

I did not even get any on my fingers. I think this is a pretty neat trick, and wanted to share. Try it! It works.

That is a cool trick Aaron.
Thanks for sharing. I'll give that a try next time.

You're about 50 years too late !!! I remember some of the first epoxys came in a two part plastic bag. First you squeezed the bag which ruptured the divider then you squooshed the bag to mix the two components .
