Third finished
This is my third completed knife.
Like my others thus far, it is a reborn Nicholson file--1095 steel with stainless pins and tube. The handle is black linen micarta with red spacing material. This is the first knife I have made for a paying client--a local police officer here in Wichita. He was very specific about the design as it is to be used as a last-resort weapon. The finger-grooves are oversized for use with tactical gloves. The thumb serration is heavy and deep for the same reason. There is no false edge as to preserve as much steel at the tip as possible for maximum strenghth when puncturing. The grip is reversible for a hammer style stroke. I tried a cold blue. We won't discuss the dismal results. I settled on a finish I have been familiar with for years, but have rarely, if ever, seen on a knife. I brought it up to my best mirror polish, raked the wheel and then dry buffed it to bring it back to somewhere between mirror and satin. Magnum Research calls this a brushed chrome finish, and it looks great on a Desert Eagle handgun. I thought it would work well enough for a sheathed tactical knife. The Kydex sheath is made like a gun holster to be clipped to the inside of the left boot for a right hand draw. I'm trying to find some black hardware to fit it. Thanks for looking. Feedback is welcomed and studied! Andy |

Nice job. Working with old files can give some good challenges.

Wow! That looks amazing. Much better then my 3rd knife..... And I'm only on my 5th knife now.
Since I am a newbie, and so far just made knives from blades bought from supply houses, I am in awe. __________________ -Aaron ______________________________________ "It's a shame that Stupidity isn't painful" |
