Newbie: help w/2x42 belt binder

I just came into possesion of what looks to be a "new" floor display model of the Sears 2x42 belt and disc grinder. Got it VERY cheap because of some missing parts and info. I know this grinder has been discussed here before because I spend MASSIVE amounts of time on line trying to soak up the readily available knowledge on the forum. Sears seems unwilling nto help either online or in the store. Would someone be willing to copy and send me the manual for their sander? I am missing the table for the disc sander and the belt sander table just "hangs" there. If not the manual would someone copy the "parts list" section with possibly a phone number? Any help is appreciated !!!
Don't want to miss a chance to say "all you guys are simply awesome in the comraderie and sharing of knowledge department...........THANKS !!
Bernie

Within the first couple of days I tossed the tables, as well as the belt guards to speed up belt changes. The next change was to epoxy a 2" strip of ceramic trim to the platen. That improved flat grinding by about 300%. I looked for the manual to send to you, but it's gone. Btw I've made dozens of knives on mine and it's a little work horse. The reason your not getting any help from Sears is because that model has been discontinued.

The Sears Parts Direct website is at http://www3.sears.com There is a "Help" section that might have what you are looking for. I just used the site last night to order a new planten to epoxy a ceramic tile to. This is so I'll still be able to continue working with my old planten if I screw it up. The part # is 16632.00 and it's only $6.36 + shipping
About a month ago I called the Sears parts dept and they were able to get me everything I needed to rebuild all the top wheel parts needed to change belts and alter the position of the belt. They should be able to get you whatever you need and possibly a copy of the parts list itself.
I hope this is helpful.
Bob

I added a piro-glass platten. Used "Liquid Nails" as a bonding agent. Figures something cheap and useful would get S@#t canned. Never fails. I got the floor model also, but it was all there.

Hi,
Actually, I posted a picture and description on KF about the changes I made to mine, and there ended up being 20 replies, with some very clever concepts shared including how to convert it to a 2 x 72. The URL
is at: http://tinyurl.com/93jzr
I hope you'll find these ideas helpful.

Y'all convinced me...

I went and got one of the last 3 that were on the floor in Austin. Now, where does one get all the different belts? Sears had a crappy selection.... And what belts should I get for grinding blades, and for the different steps of forming handles?

2x42 belts

I have been using Supergrit to get my 2x42 belts. Thier cork 400 and 600 are great for satin finishes and they last a very long time. After using my 2x42 I realized it was time to get a 2x72 pro unit. I still use the 2x42 for wood, plastic and other metal finishing. You can also get a hook and loop pad for the disc grinder which makes pad changing very fast.
I made some very nice knives with it but it has some limitations, mostly belt selection.

Hang onto that Craftsman 2x42, it is a great little workhorse. Even though I have a 2x72 I still use it alot for wood and metal. I did add a speed control to slow it down for metal. It is less problematic then the 2x72 that cost's 15 times more.

Wow!

Was that Mill Bastid made completely on the Sears 2x42? VERY impressive!

Profiled freehand on a hard wheel. Cleaned up profile and ground bevels on the 2x42. Filed radius's with a half round file. Thanks for asking.
