I just got a brand new JET horz/vertical band saw today it cost a little over $420 with the frieght charges. Southern Tool has them on sale now. I have had bad experiences with the made in China junk from Harbor Frieght. HF is very difficult to order from, half the time they lose the order, screw it up or it is on backorder for months on end. Thier mini-lathe is a pretty good little unit though and have had no problems with it thus far. I wanted a JET but they did not make them that small.
This weekend I should have it set up and get see how it runs. |

Bimetal bandsaw blades
I've got an older SEARS bandsaw that I geared down with a couple of 12" and 2.5" pulleys. The problem is it uses an 80" blade and all I see available are 60ish and 90ish Bimetal blades. Will it ruin or be dangerous to resize a longer Bimetal blade by using the standard brazing method of splicing? Thanks

Don't overlook the common benchgrinder for profileing and deburring. A medium or corse wheel will last a good long time and save you big bucks on belts. Heck, Wayne Goddard made a bunch of knives useing just a hard wheel, and Tai Goo says it is his only grinder. To me, it is the most overlooked piece of equipment in the shop, even tho it is a time and money saver.
