self ht

im planning on ht a stock removal knife in a fire brick forge with a simple propane blower what steel would you suggest for the first time Thx

1084 , 1095, or O1 The heat treat process is the same for all of them. They are all available from Sheffields Knife Supply, K&G Finishing, Jantz Supply, and Texas Knifemakers. If you don't have their catalogs already, get them. Everything a beginner needs to know is in those catalogs - supplies, steel, even heat treat and finishing info. Texas Knifemakers is here on the CKD. Use the Search key to find the rest of them. Get a copy of Blade magazine - everything a knifemaker needs is advertised in there...

Wanye Goddards book $50 knife shop would give a ton of info
most book stores can get it for you.it will help you alot
