My attempt at posting pics on this Forum, by decreasing the size so they will load. Lets see if this works. These were the pics from my Dropbox link below. Thanks.

N695 steel cambodian satinwood copper guard, ss pin some forging work.. both are made from old coil spring and last....A Camillus knife from the 60's that i rebuilt the handle on. Figured it would be good stick tang practice.. I have a wedding to play this evening so I wont be at chat...ya'll have a good'n! ~Nate |

Competition Cutter WIP
Worked on my competition cutter today. Tapered the tang (5") up just past the ricasso (last pic). Thick 5160 steel here at 3/8", so the taper is not too extreme, blade as sits a hefty 1 lb 6.4 oz. I want to keep some weight in the back. Balances 2" in front of ricasso. Lots of meat where I want it for heavy chopping, 2X4's, etc. Going to do some more grinding tomorrow and edge quench if it isn't raining.
Going to have the lanyard (tube) in the front and the other remaining tang holes are for SS Corby's. Not sure on the wood yet. I have a feeling I am going to make another competition blade later on and use this one for general chopping, so I want a fancy handle on it. Maybe some fancy stabilized Koa I have in stock. My dog's name is Bella. Thanks for any input and for looking. Tony Z Kansas City, MO __________________ ABS Apprentice Bladesmith USMC Veteran VFW Life Member "Retreat? Hell, we just got here!" Just finished edge quench on my chopper. Also a pic of my grinder set-up, which I roll outdoors so I do not burn the 100 year old house down.

if ya dont make time you'll never have time! I usually hide out in the man cave in the evenings after work Rob.. and we generally practice once a week, twice a week if we have a big show.

Here's my heat treat test blade for the KITH. It's made out of 1075. I'm pretty happy with it, I've cut a bunch of rope and newspaper, sharpened it and cut some more.It seems a bit soft against a brass rod, but to me it looks to hold a decent edge.. I carved a point on a 2x4, its still sharp enough to cleanly cut typing paper, before it would do news print with ease. I'll get it in the mail to Ray in the next couple of days.

This is my work for the last few weeks. Top right is cable Damascus with black ash burl handle. The three narrow tangs in the middle are file knives. The rest are 1095.

Branson Hammer-In
Still in Branson until tomorrow. Made my first damascus at Gary Mulkey's shop, a big billet of ladder pattern. Started with 21 layers, 1084 and 15N20. Lost count on how many layers she is now. The hydraulic press was easy to work and I had a little bit of trouble keeping the ladder pattern straight, but is now fixed. Had a great time, got to work with some great bladesmith's and have nothing but praise for the professionalism, knowledge and hospitality the ABS people have. I feel right at home with these people! Also since we were at the Lawrence Welk resort took a pic of me next to him!

This weekend Romey Bromwich and his girlfriend CJ were at my place for a few days. Romey is a knife maker/blacksmith so in addition to beating the crap out of my guitars every evening we spent several days making damascus. This is a one minute glimpse at the making of my billet of radial pattern damascus. The billet weighs about six pounds and the video will show those who haven't made a billet that large or had the chance to see a hydraulic press at work a little bit of what goes on ....
