Basket weave in progress
This is a knife that Harry is in the process of carving the handle on. This handle is a little different from our normal carved handle and I think we will be doing more of it. I was sending an "in progress" picture to the future owner and thought I would post it here too. It has a 5" blade that is wrapped up at this time to protect it and him. The handle is sambar stag with a mortised tang. It has a nickel silver guard, spacers and pins. He used the nickel silver because the pins carve better than stainless would and that is what the customer asked for. This side of the handle is nearly finished and he's about half way through on the other. Then I get to pick it apart.

Reminds me of the apple pies my Mom used to bake. Very nice work Harry!

I'd love to see the 'work-in-progress' on this carving. Very nice.

Harry just finished the other side of the knife, made a sheath and shipped it off to Coop for some real pictures. I thought I would post a quick photo we use for our records. We have moved our Logo to the Spine of the blade so it doesn't show up in this photo. It has a 5 inch blade of CPM S30V that is 3/16" thick, and flat ground.

Very appealing design and craftsmanship! I notice that Harry really had some challenges with the pins during the carving. I wonder if there's another way to go instead of the pins?

The pins aren't really a problem. You just carve them like the stag. Being nickel silver it cuts pretty well. The whole surface is carved so there is no getting away from dealing with them. I never have trusted hidden pins and won't use them.
