Small Maple Hunter
Blade : W-2 with Hamon - 3 1/2"
Guard : 416 Stainless and pin Handle : Spalted Maple Stabilized by WoodLab - 7 1/2" This was another that turned out pretty good. It had originally started out a fair bit larger, and i wasn't crazy about the shape. The tip had warped a little, So I tried straightening, snap... Well I reground reheat treated it, and it warped once more, well let's just say once again it got a bit shorter. All in all, I like the way it is now, more than I did before. Also had learned from Don Hanson in another posting a while back that trying to straighten it is a bit of a bad idea, so I'm going to try to leave tips a bit thicker and grind thinner after heat treat. It was clay coated, so it has a bit of hamon, which doesn't seem to be showing in the pictures. I'll try to get another photo showing it. Tried to give the handle a bit more curves which is a pain in the rear with my limited tooling. I've got an idea to try though. Still happy with how the handle turned out. thoughts, comments or questions? More can be seen here of it. http://www.erwinknives.com/galleryht...plehunt01.html |
