Question Bending blades best material

Hi everyone,

I am looking for guidance on the best material to use for a product I am hoping to get to market.

The product is ambidextrous scissors and the design I have come up with requires one of the 1-1.2mm blades to have bends in it, one bend being 180 degrees with a 1-1.5mm radius on the inside.

I have sucessfully made this design from 316 and 304 stainless steel but as you will know these cannot be heat treated and will become blunt rather quickly. I have ordered some 1mm thick 420 st st but I fear this will just crack when I test it next week.

Can anyone advise the best material for this type of job?

One product I feel has similar bending is paramedic scissors, see picture below, although these only have a 90 degree bend at the end.

I hope someone can help as I am being turned away from manufacturer saying we do not have the technology but I feel it is merely a lack of knowledge or drive to risk to do something new.

Best regards,

Peebherault

Many of these shapes will have been laser or water jet cut and or a powdered metal that has been cast into the desired form. The forgers would have more background on grain structure properties when hard formed to various shapes.
