New to knife making
Hello all,
I'm new to knife making, but have a long past with woodworking. I've made one skinner handle with no issues, but have not attempted anything else. I've been looking at the classic Katana kits and was wondering if anyone has made this and if so what is entailed of it. Thanks, Shane |

Shane, I'm new to knife making too! Really new. My interest started with the Japanese sword, and making a katana is something i want to do one day. From scratch, though. Katana kit? I wasn't familiar, but I did a google search and came up with a katana kit that you assemble. There isn't any skill involved at all, all the parts have been put together, you just slide the tsuba on, along with the tsuka, put the pin(s) in, and that's it. Like assembling a katana that has been taken apart for cleaning or polishing. Nothing to it, really. If you're seeing something I'm overlooking, please ignore me.
If someone produced a katana kit that had the following, I'd be interested. W-2 blank 43" (probably 1060 or 5160 would be better) blocks of wood for the handle and saya iron blanks for the fittings copper/brass to make habaki/menuki sa me cotton/silk cord Huh, huh...yeah....that would be cool. |

I'm sorry, I should have specified. I thought this forum was a part of this site.
The Katana kit I'm referring to is from Knifekits.com. It is the classic katana under fixed blades. Thanks, |
