Any ideas welcome

I have a small problem - it's only 1 mm big - but it's a gap between the blade and the handle at the bottom of the knife. The gap was concealed by a lump of glue and I discovered it yesterday after having spent several hours on the knife (I learned something there - always remove the glue before spending hours shaping the knife...). Is there anything I can do - apart from breaking it apart (deep sigh) and start from scratch again???

Jette, without seeing it, it sounds as though something was not flat - either the knife tang, or the scale material. I would either re-do it, or just call it a learning experience. We have all been there at one time or another.

I forgot to mention that it's a nordic style knife with a hidden tang. I was wondering if I could heat up the blade and loosen it - without burning everything...

depending on epoxy and handle material, you could boil it in water till it lossens enough to pull off. Had to do that a couple of times.

Thanks for the advice. I took the knife apart using hot water and a little violence and started a new walnut/kingwood combination yesterday. Got to have it finished for a sheath making course this weekend!

Hopefully the new knife turns out right and deserves to be presented here on the CKD.
