Question fixing a pommel

As a newbie I have very little experience in knifemaking and would like to hear any advice on fixing pommels. Although I have not finished my first knife yet, I am thinking of my next knife and how I would like it to look. I am hoping to make a small drop point style knife with beach handles, a brass guard and I was hoping to make a brass but cap to finish it off. The tang I am planning will be mortised and so will not go right through the handle so I can not use a nut. I am hoping for a nice chunky, shaped brass pommel and a black spacer. Any sugestions on the best way to fix the pommel to the handle.

Thanks in anticipation
John

Other then lack of material for the tang,is there any reason why one couldn't do a mortised handle that allows for the tang to pass through to the back and allow for a pommel to be screwed on?

Thanks all. Thanks to Chris for that link and to Frank for the brilliant tutorial. just what I needed. Looks like I will have to start by making myself a couple of little bits to help though.
The best of advice as always!
