New Trail knife
Trail knife, and another version of a pouch sheath, D2 60rc convex ground, satin finish. 7" overall, 3 1/4" blade, Black and gray linen micarta, yellow liner, nickel silver pins and tube. Tell me what ya think. I have three more, different design, ready to profile one S90V and 2 S35vn. One of the days I'll decide which steel I want to kind of stick to. So probably gonna be awhile before I put up another knife, with the day job and all ya know. As to everyone else on the network nice work indeed, Im very much into checkin it all out.

Great work, Scott! Very nice leather work there.
As for the steel, my vote would go to almost anything over D2. My favorite has been S30V for the last 10 years or so but the S35VN, which I have used a few times, might be an improvement over S30V... |

Like I said in the other thread. .. nice work. I'n in exactly the same boat as you. What do you think about the D2? I just did a bunch of knives from D2 and I don't think I will do it again. I think I will take my first leap into stainless. I just have to decide which flavor.

Outstanding job on both the knife and the sheath. The two tone Micarta looks real nice; a lot nicer than the two tone handles that I've done.

Icho,
I've done S30v, S90v, and D2, The D2 has a high Chromium content so it is considered the stainless of high carbon steels. Hard to get a high polish so a satin finish works better. Hard to get a nice edge on D2 but once you get one it keeps well. The stainless takes a long time to get a high polish but is doable, I'm going to stick to a satin finish. This knife was just some D2 I had left and needed to use up. The next ones will be of S35Vn we'll see how they turn out. __________________ Scott |

The characteristics of D2 is what made me want to try a blade with it. I did read that it doesn't polish the best and that it does not easily take a crazy sharp edge but have been working with D2 for 15+ years so I had to try it on a knife blade. Maby when I can do a satin finish that I am happy with I'll try it again. Next time I order steel I will get some true stainless. I'm just not sure which one yet.
