I just completed my second knife: a lockback folder with maple burl scales

Today I finished making my second knife from scratch, a lockback folder with O1 steel blade, stabilized maple burl scales, and brass liners/hardware. I made it as a gift for my father, and he helped by polishing the blade (all by hand until the final buff... quite a bit of work). I finished the handle with a base coat of danish oil, buffed until shiny, applied a few coats of Waterlox original, buffed again, then buffed on some carnauba wax. The blade has a few coats of sweetshooter oil to prevent rust. Here are some pictures:

And here is a shot of the handle after buffing with carnauba wax, just to show how awesomely shiny it is:

What type of steel did you use to make your spring? I am working on a lockback folder now, and I have no clue on what type of steel should be used on that spring.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike, I bought the steel already spring tempered from Jantz:

I guess it's 302 stainless, by their description. I just cut it to length and used it as-is.

Dude, if this only your second, (and by the way I just took the link to the first), you have been missing your calling!

Really nice work!

With every custom knife I build I try to accomplish three things. I want that knife to look so good you just have to pick it up, feel so good in your hand you can't wait to try it, and once you use it, you never want to put it down !
If I capture those three factors in each knife I build, I am assured the knife will become a piece that is used and treasured by its owner!
