Hollow Grinding
Having just purchased a belt grinder, I was hoping some of you could recommend the best steel to use for stock removal and hollow grinding. Obviously cost is a factor, but which steel do you prefer for ease of learning to hollow grind? Thanks John

For hollow grinding practice, I'd recommend using a bar of mild steel for your first few practices. Once you have learned it fairly well, switch to using a knife steel so that you can actually make a knife after grinding. With learning a flat grind, use paint stirring sticks that Home Depot gives away for practice. They're free and help you learn how to correctly position the steel on the grinder.
