Hey Jerry - CPM-3V Question

Hi Jerry,

I was reading with interest the thread you had going on the "other" knife forum concerning CPM-3V, and it caused me to wonder about the heat treating of CPM-3V. Is it done the same as any of the other stainless steels?

Also, are you doing your own heat treat of CPM-3V or do you send it out?

-Mr Mike

I'm not Jerry, but I've heard him say many times that Paul Bos does all his heat treating.

If Paul is tied up I can if you like. If you have the equipment I recommend doing it yourself. If not, I am here.

Hi RL,

Thanks so much for the offer. . . I may just take you up on that. Right now I have a guy locally who does the ATS & D2 that I currently work with, but I'm uncertain if he is set up to work with CPM-3V.

Mr Mike,

It is much better if you can stay as close to the heat treat of your blades as possible. Learn all you can about it and always remember that it is the HT that makes it a knife instead of only something that looks like a knife. If you have a fellow close by that can HT ATS-34 it is a very good bet he can also HT 3V. I only hope he is good and for now will presume he is very good.

If you or he would like any opinions of me please email or post a question here. I will be most happy to assist in any way.

RL
