Where to send a knife for engraving?
I have searched around and have found some people that offer engraving for bolsters, etc. The question I have is, who do you use or recommend? Right now I will not be sending out a lot of stuff for this, but I have one that I want to done and will (hopefully) have more in the future. Cost is a consideration, so what is a typical price? It will not be very detailed, customer is retiring from the Air Force and I want to put a logo and his squad (sorry if that is the incorrect term). Thanks.

If your customer just wants a logo and a word or two you could just have a stencil made and apply it with an electro-etcher. A jewelry store could engrave a few words if you want engraving but they won't be likely to engrave art work.
If you want actual engraving done as the term is normally used with custom knives you need to find someone whose business it is to engrave knives. For that, look in the classified section of Blade magazine. How much you'll pay depends on how much experience they have but, generally, knife engraving is not cheap . You probably won't find anyone on this forum who uses an engraver since that is something only a professional knife maker who builds knives for collector's would do. You might try the Fine Embellishment forum or any other forum that deals will collector's knives and that type of art work... Last edited by Ray Rogers; 09-19-2013 at 06:01 PM. |

Thanks Ray,
I do want a little embellishment to go with the "logo". Unfortunately I have not invested in an etcher. Still stamping my mark. I posted this same question in Fine Embellishment but have not had much of a response. This group seems to get a lot of traffic, so I was hoping someone would stumble across it. I have looked at a few of the people in the back of Blade magazine. Just didn't know if there is someone that stood out as the person to go to. Thanks again. |

I had a laser etching done on a knife a customer wanted. The wording was simple and it cost $20. The fellow I used works out ofhis basement making promotional trinkets like key chains, laser engraved pens, placques and such... Look up laser engravers in the phone book perhaps?
