creating a hamon?

hey guys I am working on a knife out of 1095 and am wanting to do a hamon line and I am also wanting to try to quench in brine, which from my understanding increases the risk of cracking the blade but should produce a better hamon.

does the brine need to be warm and what is the ration of salt to water?

From what I read most guys use 8% to 10% salt by weight to the water. As with most things in knife making there are also varying opinions on whether or not to heat the water and the consensus seems to be to heat it but not much. Since you have not filled out your profile so that we know where you live all I can say is make sure the water is at least 65F but don't go out of your way to make it any warmer than that. If your ambient temperature is higher than that then just go with it....

Thanks, I was goin to use satanite for the clay, hope it works. Once I'm finished I will post pics of it. Maybe it won't crack. Lol
