Wedding Knife

First one in a while!
Here is a small knife I made for my nephew's wedding to cut the cake, but also something he can use in his kitchen: a 9 inch blade of 440C, spalted maple scales and mosaic pins. His and his bride's names are etched into the blade (hard to see in the picture). Although the spalted (ie rotten) maple was stabilized it still presented problems when being worked. It tended to tear out and crumble, as you would expect from rotten wood... it took some careful manipulating to get a consistent finish. Although it looks gorgeous, it's not on my list of "must use again" grip materials... The set is housed in a walnut presentation case lined with blue velvet.
Thanks for looking.
Cheers,
Chris

Absolutely beautiful work CK! You did a wonderful job with such a troublesome handle material. I like how it looks, just don't want to bother with it myself for that same reason. From the knife and steel to the case, just a great gift! I never had Uncles like you! Almost a reason to get married! LOL.

Thanks, guys. Most of my family has at least one of my knives. That's the beauty of giving knives; they are such "fitting" gifts - kitchen knives for the hobby cook, art knives for the collector, camp knives for the hiker, hunters for the hunter, fighters for... well, the "fighter at heart"...
