Talking New Texas Toothpicks

Here's a preview of two Toothpicks I've been working on.

Nothing is finished except the filework. This is the first assembly following heat treat.

The 154CM blades and springs are heat treated to 61Rc and 49Rc.

The blades haven't been finish ground.

The only thing left to do now is the fun part.

Nice work, I am fascinated by properly made slipjoints, even tried my hand at them a couple of times but DARN they are tough to get just right.

Hi, George.

Yeah, a slipjoint is very different to build. For some unknown reason I've made the cycle and come back to them.

Now let's see you do one.

I say again, if you want to build these, get Don's book on slipjoints. He is truly the master.

Talking Finished!

Here's the finished product.

The smaller one has honey died jigged bone, the larger has plain white bone.

Both sets of scales were ground almost to finished size, then soaked overnight in Nelsonite. That's what caused the beautiful ivory looking glow. Sealed all the way thru.

Both blades are 154CM, same for the springs.

Liners, bolsters and pins are all 416 SS.

The bolsters have been spot welded to the liners.

Her's the jigged bone one.

Don, love these and now need to have those tips added to the book. I am not sure what Nelsonite is by the way...

I wish I knew. Darren Ellis here on Knet sells it. Search for him or for Nelsonite.

Same knife as before, but this time it's been engraved by a friend of mine.
