Printing Correct Picture Size

Ok, I just got my 4th DSLR camera in the past 4 years, each one a higher resolution (and naturally more expensive) than the last. This one is the new Nikon Coolpix 8700, 8 megapix. Is there no end to this madness??

With that rant out of the way, my problem is how to determine correct print size from a full size file. I've been taking some pics at some of the higher resolution while I'm leaning all the bells and whistles on the camera, and just starting to try to print some of the better shots. I have an Epson 825 color photo printer that will print great pics, but for some strange reason when I try to print 5x7 borderless pics, it usually will crop the top or sides a bit.

Is there a formula for figuring how to resize before I print? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Johnny,

That sounds like a page margin issue to me.

Johnny, Have you resized the image or are you letting the printer do it? The ratio of the file size (height to width) may not be correct to reduce to a 5 x 7. Also, most printers will not print to the edge of the paper.
One item to remember about printer is that they have a maximun resolution and the file should be resized to to that resolution before printer. If you have a file that is larger resolution than the printer can handle, the printer software will throw out pixels to reduce the size. You want to hanbdle this instead of the printer for better results.
