W Damascus layers??
I have been thinking about making some W pattern Damascus. I am wondering though, how many times the billet should be doubled over (minimum) to achieve a desirable pattern? I plan on starting with 15 layers of 1" wide 1084 nan 15N20.
Thanks Brian |

"W" layer count....
Brian,
Keep the layer count fairly low for "W" patterns........less than 50 for a courser pattern, and not more than 100 for a fine pattern. Once you get past 100 layers with "W" pattern, it gets so fine that the finished product almost looks blurry. __________________ WWW.CAFFREYKNIVES.NET Caffreyknives@gmail.com "Every CHOICE has a CONSEQUENCE, and all your CONSEQUENCES are a result of your CHOICES." |

Thanks Ed. Low layer count is great news as I am still pounding my billets with only a hammer.
