On metal to metal bonds, I would advise against using epoxy. If it does hold, it will only be for a short duration. Pinning and/or soldering are the methods I would use. Screws are OK too if the look compliments the rest of the knife.

you might want to use loctite, super glue, epoxy, something to seal the joint from moisture if you're not soldering- i know from past experince how hard it is to get rust out from there. i've always pinned , not soldered bolsters. if you do, a counter sink hole one numbered drill bigger and the pin hammered or pressed is better than using a 45 degree bevel- with the bevel sometimes it doesn't expand to fill it completely. good luck - paul

i should have added- when counter sinking the drill is going to want to thread itself into the existing hole. you must have a drill press with a stop for depth, or adjust the table down so the drill can't go any deeper than .030 or so from the surface. you'll have to figger the depth of the counter sink by how much material you'll still remove to finish. first time i did it, the drill went right on through giving me too big a hole- must of been because i was wondering if that would happen before i did it. paul

with a different thought- has anyone found an affordable drill press with an ajustable stop other than SEARS. they have a benchtop model with one [ low $100 range]- about the same as all those imports without one. just wondering, i make do with mine adjusting the table. paul

Hey all!
Ryobi has a fairly decent one for $99.99 you can go through home depot. If you get one make sure to make a ajustable support for the table or it'll flex when you bear down on it, even a little bottle jack would work. Lucas |
