Kit 'customs' by Kelly Carlson

Guys,

We've been admiring a BUNCH of fine work with these DDR folders. This past weekend I went to a small knife show here in CT and was I impressed! Kelly Carlson is a part-time maker from New Hampshire who embraced these knives and did a number on them.

Here's what was left after I got there. He had sold about six before I arrived. As well he should! (His prices were GREAT!)

I have been chatting with him, and he may become a CKD member very soon. I sure hope so! Anyway, here's what he's up to. The beautiful scrim knives are done by John Stahl from NY, and Kelly has replaced bolsters with damascus, mokume, and carbon fiber, as well as a variety of scale materials. He also made some very nice fixed blades, but he felt that these folders were a great avenue to display his own workmanship with less cost.

He told me he ordered six more DDR-1's to get reworking after the show. WOW!!!

Thanks for the very positive feedback, and special thanks to Jim Cooper for the photos and postings on this site (which I haven't yet figured out how to do - can anyone help?).
The combination of selling a few dozen last weekend, plus your complimentary remarks is great encouragement and justification to keep on making more, plus pursueing my own designs.

Welcome to the forums Kelly. Great work on those knives. Very very nice!! Take some time and explore around here a bit (if you haven't yet), the amount of knowledge, info and tips available from some of the big guns found here is amazing! I can honestly say that there isn't a question that I would be afraid to ask here and know I will get a rapid and helpful response. This is a tremendous community.
