dating of knives

These look very much like knives cataloged in the book "Knives and Scabbards"( J. Cowgill et al) . Those knives were also recovered from the Thames river. The authors explain that various dating techniques were used--among them association with particular coins and tokens within the layers of debris where a particular artifact was found.

I found that book interesting if a bit dry. Mostly the illustrations were detailed drawings with the occasional black and white photo. The color photos really add a new dimension. Thanks.
