Just talked to Aldo......new steel

Well not actually talked, more like we chatted in email. He said they started bringing in 80CrV2. He said, "It's kind of like 5160 on steroids. It has 30 points more carbon and .15 to .25 Vanadium and the heat treat is the same and the stuff is tougher then 5160 ever could be." Looks like I might have something new to try when I make an order.

Is this some stuff that Aldo had specially made for him? I ask because I know of this steel, and it's specs in general are pretty wide...

C: 0.45-1.00
V: 0.10-0.30
Cr: 0.40-1.20
Mo: 0.25
Mn: 0.9

Unless Aldo had the specs narrowed down for this steel, the Carbon and Chromium variances could be a real bugger to work with. You can work your butt off to figure out the heat treating for it, and then the next batch, if the specs are way different, you have to start from scratch.

Not real sure, didn't have a long convo with him. He just told me the heat treat was the same as 5160. Not real sure if he had the specs narrowed or not. He just mentioned it because I asked him about his 5160. Not real sure if I want to go with that or 01Tool.
