Cerakote & Kydex

Hi, I just got my first cerakoted knife and I'm about to make a kydex sheath for it. Can somebody tell me whats the best way to do kydex sheath without scratching the cerakote.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :-)

I think kydex will scratch anything you want to keep in it. Maybe you could put in a liner of some sort but I've never seen one..

Yup I know, but I just wanted to prevent it from getting scratched while doing the kydex sheet. The knife will be offered for sale :-)

Try waxing the blade with Ren wax and then covering it with heavy blue masking tape (I like the 3M brand). The wax makes the tape easier to remove after the hot kydex bakes it...

The tape also makes the kydex sheath a little bigger lowering the risks of scratches if a little dirt gets in. I like kydex but I find that it always ends up scratching the knife.

As far as the knife getting scratched when your making the sheath goes I can't see how that could honestly happen.

I always put a single layer if painters tape on the blade. It gives about the right amount of space for a secure fit and easy draw. The most important thing is to make a drain hole and rinse any debris out before inserting the bare blade. Dirt and especially kydex shavings will scratch much worse than the sheath itself. Cerakote is pretty hard stuff, and I don't think you'll get an unreasonable amount if finish wear if the sheath is made correctly.

It also helps if you assemble the sheath with Chicago screws rather than eyelets. The screws make it easy to disassemble the sheath and completely clean it to remove that crap that CB was talking about. Looks good too ...
