I just saw that this morning. Email has been sent. Hopefully the analysis will show it to actually be something close to 1084.

I sent Mace an email about the steel last night. If it is the real thing I'm gona buy a bunch. I did tell him that I would have to see the analysis before I would agree to purchase any. Lylle Brokhorst is also talking about getting a run of steel poured....not sure what exact analysis he's going with, but we have talked about it a couple of times.

I saw this post and thought I should let everyone know about the the analysis on the batch of 1084 that Mace and I got a hold of. I had cut off 2 short pieces from 2 different bars in the batch and the results are as follows.

Carbon .86 and .89/Required = .80>.89
Manganese .67 and .70/Required = .70/.90
Phos .008 and .010/ Required = 0.040Max
Sulphur .021 and.028/Required = 0.050Max

The testing was done by Inspection & Testing Services, Inc. out of Linden, NJ. It's the real deal! Mace and I forged out a few pieces last weekend. We were both smiling.

If anyone is interested drop me an E-mail and I'll give you the particulars.

Thanks

PS- Ed, I just had to do that!

My order is already in. I'm really looking forward to it. I'll be able to stop splitting wide stock down the middle on the bandsaw to do hunter sized pieces. ( What a pain )

I just bought some from Sheffield's. Was I had?

Might as well count me in for some of this stuff too. If they are 12' bars I'll take 1 or 2 depending on price. Cut it into thirds for me?
