Annealing
This should mabey be in the newbie area but I have a quick question.I have just started forging after using mainly stock removal and I have been using L6 for that.I anneal that and then do the work and then heat treat and temper and that is going well but if I am going to forge that same steel do I need to anneal it then forge it or can I go straight ahead and just work it in the forge or will it be harder?

The common place or term is "Critical" once in the forge the steel will lose its magnetic properties. That blows away any anealing, tempering or hardning that happened before you started. So in answer to your question, just stick the billet in the forge and start beatin on it.
