not knife related but metal work all the same...
I work in a kitchen to pay my bills. One of the cooks let a pot boil dry, and the aluminum plate that was fused to the bottom became unfused. Does anybody know how to fuse the aluminum plate back onto a stainless pot? Are the two peices glued somehow? I see a residue of something. Any ideas would be very welcome....it was a well used pot.
Thanks Alan |

You could try the adhesive that is used on woodstoves to glue the seal in around the door. I will withstand very high heat. I am not sure what temp JB weld is rated for but that might be tried also.

I saw the process at Paderno pots a few years ago. The pot is dusted with a flux and the plate placed in place then a welding unit (resistance I guess) clamped the two together and pulsed for about 10 seconds and the two were welded together then the aluminum plate was machined to size and flatness.

If you have a Vo-Tec school near-by they might Tig weld it for you. I did that with an alum. pot that had been burned through, plus it was free :-)
