What do you think about this Springfield?

Looks quite the altered mess to me...... Any comments?

Ron, do you think that the spacers and leather discs could be original to the blade itself, and just the brass hilt and butt cap replaced?

Good question, Bill. If the hilt and butt cap were not replaced, then I'd say there was a possibility that the spacers and leather discs are original and might have been exposed to water such that they expanded a bit. Since the hardware was replaced, my guess is that only the blade is original.

It's clearly a Frankenknife. There are a lot of knives that were made up from left over parts. Here is an image of some. I know #3 from the top is original.

IMO: 2nd from the top and 2nd from the bottom are Springfields. The top and bottoms knives were kludged up in Larson's basement.
