Leather sewing machine

Any inputs on using an old Singer (vintage) to sew leather ? Dont have $ for fancy models but I have seen many of the old Singers cheap.

Dave, it depends on the model. The only one I'm familiar with is the 31-15. It will handle up to about 1/4" of thickness, but you'd still be hand stitching the edge seam. Those thicker edge seams pretty well take a saddle stitcher. A used Tippman Boss sometimes goes for $600 to $1000. If you are not going to try to line your sheaths and other products then the heavier stitcher would be about all you would need. The 31-15 would be great for linings and handbags, chaps etc.
