Sombar Stag Seax
This Sombar Stag Seax is forged from 1087 with Mokomae fittings and a mild steel rivet. The overall length is 10 inches with a 6 inch blade length. The mokumae is forged from 12 quarters with for silver quarters thrown in. Fore some reason when I etched them in ferric chloride the silver over etched the copper and blurred out the pattern. Any ideas or suggestions to prevent this in the future? Thanks for looking.

Just use a little vinegar to etch US coin mokume - it doesn't take much at all. If you like ferric, just wipe a little on a rag and wipe the mokume a couple times, then rinse it in water, it etches really quick, in my experience.

That is a nice one. Flows real nice. Is that one going in the hat?

Thanks guys.
I was considering it. It's going to Pennsic first. I have about 50 blades ready to sell there. If it comes home it'll go in the hat. I think it's one of the best peices I've done yet. If not I'll make a new one. |
