Yes the jumbo. I had 2 actually. Just not enough heat output. If you can build a 3/4" burner, do that. I can't wrap my head around them and that's why the kit was my next move. $40 for the kit, $50 for the regulator. Get a good burner and learn how they are put together at the same time.

Seemus7,
You can probably get parts to make this-http://zoellerforge.com/miniburner.pdf.
I use one in my 2 brick forge without any problems.
Mine is a copy of Len Lundrums forge-http://elliscustomknifeworks.hightemptools.com/ForgeGallery/My_Homepage_Files/Page8.html

Eli, or anyone?

Have you any experience with the ts4000 torch?
I am starting to build a 1/2'' burner, but its gonna take some time to get the bits together locally.
Postage for a kit is more double the price of the kit itself so a scratch build is happening.
I can get a ts4000 for a reasonable price, and i have one knife (nearly two) ready for HT and i am Keeeeeeeeeen to get them done.
Do you think it would be similar to the ts7000? or at least enough to get up to temp.

Cheers

If I remember correctly, they are the same torch except the TS-4000 is not adjustable. Off or full blast, no in between.

Progress

built a 3/4 DS burner and a cradle to suit the 2 brick. The cradles are interchangeable so I can still use the map torch for a back up.
The nozzle plate is only tacked on for now. I might have to play with positioning.
Nozzle is a .60mm mig tip tapped into a 1/4'' nipple, ready to accept the hose. (still waiting for hose and regulator)

Cheers

That's probably the most elaborate 2-brick forge I've ever seen! Nice job.

You will probably need high pressure on your propane to get that DS burner to work well due to the very long nozzle you have. It might work fine but, if it doesn't, try shortening the nozzle by about a third ....

I got carried away Ray... was bored and had some steel lying around.
Thanks for the tip on nozzle length. I will try and "tune" it up once running.

Finally received my regulator.
So...

I had to shorten the overall length to 16 inches.
I also had to choke nearly 3/4 to get it started. I haven't got a pressure gauge set up yet, I ran it at about half way out (0-30psi reg) once the forge was hot (about 2-3 mins) the burner ran best with 3/8 of the venturi choked. sputtered a bit when I tried less. mig tip is.60mm (.024'') I will try a .50 next.
Will be plumbing in a gauge and needle valve soon.
Heated a thin 3mm strip of MS to straw yellow very quickly

Cheers

I ran it tonight at wide open on my reg. which I think is actually only a 0-20psi.
Heated a 1'' square piece of 1075 to yellow hot very quickly, In fact my whole workshop was quite toasty.
I am excited to HT a knife this week!

Tasman, that definitely looks like she is putting out! BTU's that is! Great job, and like Ray says such a well crafted and elaborate set-up! Looking forward to seeing some blades. Are you going to forge your blades, or just HT them in the forge? See you on chat.

Thanks Kanman. Just HTing at the moment. I have a couple of 1075 blades ready. Going to do them this week.

I have been working in the machine shop at work, so i knocked up a stainless tip. Its not flared as it would then be too large to fit the small forge

cheers
