OT, I thought I'd share
Well, I know that this post isn't knife related but its photography.
Thought I'd share, feel free to delete it. I took my family to Death Valley to see the flowers. We had a GREAT time, I took 116 photos. We just got back last night and I haven't gone through all the photos but I thought I'd share a couple. Not sure when or how to share or even if anyone would want to see all or hear the trip story, like the closest rooms available was in Las Vegas. The weather was incredible, rain, sun, and sometimes we got both at the same time. anyway here's one that I liked it was a mistake, (wrong exposure) SkyFire some hills flowers more color I'll try to figure a way to show more. thanx for looking Rik |

Some beautiful images there Rik, I for one don't mind seeing them - perhaps some technical deatils aswell from the metafiles - Camera, lenses, F stop, Shutter, any digital adjustments, would help keep it a bit more On T.
Cheers, Stephen |

Very cool Rik! What a magical place. Did you take "Barr" - your recently posted little hiking hawk - with you? If so, that would be OT.

Thanx!
Stephen, I must have lost the meta data when I reduced them for the web. I was using a Nikon D100. I brought 4 lenses with me. All were Nikkors 60mm macro, 17-35mm, 28-70mm, 70-200mm. I used a tripod and mirror lock up and manual focused for the close ups. I hand held the wide shots, mostly in the 320 shutter area and I always try to keep it as close as I can to F8. It was cloudy with rain in places along with bright sun peeking through too. (thats how I made the mistake of wrong exposure, I metered in the wrong place) I used a "cloudy" white balance mode to enhance the color and extend the range. I used PS to crop them to a 5x7 ratio vertical and horizontal format, I also had to use levels because of exposure problem. Buddy, Yep I did bring the "Barr" (how did you know) I wasn't sure what the Death Valley flowers would look like. I also had brought 2 other knives with me too! but we were just overcome with the flowers we were very excited and kept driving and stopping and discovering cool things never even took the knives out!. here's a view from Badwater flowers everywhere Rik |

Rik, these are awesome!
I've got a request -- do you have a large version of the first image from your last post? It would make a great desktop wallpaper. I change my wallpaper pretty much weekly, and I collect them. If you have a larger version, I'd love to have a copy. My email is public, if you don't mind me having a copy for my desktop. |

Rik, those shots are simply beautiful.
Chuck S, you need to have an image host first then link the shots to the forum. I have been using imageshack.com which is free and so far has been quite stable and easy to use. |

The flowers were so diverse Cloud pic |

Just got back from a couple of trips. The first was down to Tucson for 'spring break.' Here are a couple of images from that trip. Click to enlarge.....
First image: Canon 1D MK II, EF 500mm F4.0 L 'IS' with 1.4 telextender = 910mm Actually this is two images put together with Photoshop but I shot both from the top of the same picnic table across from the AFB - one after the other. Second image: Same gear without the 1.4 telextender. Shot at the Sonoran Desert Museum while wandering the trails there - fantastic place. They have an enclosed hummingbird habitat where I also got a lot of great pictures. |

Nice shots Buddy!
I've heard the 1.4 was pretty lossless the 2.0 is still nice but has some noticeable softness. I've seen the new 1.7 tc and it was awesome! even cleaner than the 1.4
I actually got lucky at last years Airshow, as we were going to head out I turned and snapped this (no PS compositing) blueflag When I shoot photos now I pretty much only use the historgram, I try to spread it without compressing the blacks or whites, this makes me adjust the camera for the best exposure. Ok, now I guess I will push the limits of my welcome by giving some NON KNIFE pic links but maybe I can make it legitimate photo info. Some of the photos I changed to Black & White using a VERY nice plug in from www.silveroxide.com (yes, I know I can similate it with PS but it really is not the same quality) anyway... incase your bored check these out. colored silver converted b&w silver colored bubble converted b&w bubble colored grey converted b&w grey some more junk blue angel rivets unmaned flames colored orange converted B & W orange my big boy flying anyway, i hope you didn't mind, if you have any questions please ask Rik Last edited by Rik Palm; 04-06-2005 at 01:20 PM. |

Excellent Rik! Especially blueflag and blue angel. Thanks for the link to the B&W converter plug-in. I'm definitely gettin' that one - I like what it did with your images and pretty much everybody agrees that PS's converter is not up to snuff.

Buddy, my favorite one is the 16 bit panx one, I have the others but like it better for some reason.
here's my "Barr" hawk converted, some things work better than others. |
