switchblades & the law

I looking for information about making switchblades / automatic knives.
I live in Virginia and I wonder about the law concerning making switchblades.
Does anyone out there make switchblades?
Thanks for any help.

Switchblades

Ooohh, I can see a lot of replies coming from this!
Every state has its own variations of switchblade law and then there is the federal issue on top of that. Mostly, you're allowed to make them but not carry them according to most states. Then the federal aspect comes in because it's against federal law to ship one across state lines. These are generalities, of course, and vary by state.
Go to you local library and research your state laws. If your state publishes its penal code then you may be able to get a copy at a book store or a university book store. Get back issues of Blade and Knives Illustrated magazines for their articles concerning switchblade law - especially the articles by Judge Lowell Bray.
Also, be aware that laws change all the time and lawmakers just love to pull the rug out from under people. Not knowing the law is not considered an affirmative defense either- in other words, what you don't know can definitely hurt you...

Re: Switchblades

Yup, the answer to that question would span several books....way too much bandwidth for here

Go to www.google.com and do a search for your counties codes...

laws

laws on autos are about as complicated as gun laws. each state has "states rights" issues and then there's the fed. trouble is there is no "standard" to go by. as has been already stated you just have to learn and know the rules for your location. however i think it might be safe to say that if you treat an automatic knife just like it is a fully automatic machine gun you will be within legal venues.
