Here's one I worked on today ( with new to me filework )

I copied the filework from a guy on another forum from a pic he posted, the filework isn't great but it's my first try at doing it.

The file work looks pretty clean. I'd be interested in seeing the whole thing finished.

Doug

I find it pretty well executed, but a cluttered pattern that has to be studied to tell it is a pattern at all. At first glance it seems a conglomeration of file cuts just going this way and that without direction or purpose. It lacks smoothness in flow, and gives no pleasure to the eye. But that is just what I see, and only my opinion.

Yeah I know it's not the best job on the filework, but it's my first try at this pattern, the next one will be better.

I pretty much agree with the above as to the file-work , but then again I dislike most file-work .I hate to see a nice clean profile all broken up with jagged bumps and stuff .Same goes for most jimping .Now , if only there was a way to do file-work without breaking the line of the edge of the spine....
As to your general knife designs , I like them very much ! When I see that you've posted a new one I always take a look . You're getting good !

Kev,

WBE didn't mean you did a bad job on the file work, in fact, he said the execution was done pretty well. What he meant was he didn't care for the pattern that you copied. Next time, try a nice basic vine pattern and I think you'll get better results .....

Although I dislike the pattern, you did a fantastic job! Especially for the first time! The pattern is somewhat confusing in my opinion. But then again, I don't really like filework, I think it detracts from the beauty of the knife in some cases. All in all, I am impressed with you doing so well on your first try! My first try was horrid in comparison and I just produced a simple pattern. Kudos to you Kev!

Executed well!

(Comments on the design)
For my taste I like to put a definite stop between the patterns on the handle and any work on the blade. I think that looks better than going from back of handle to front of blade without stop. I prefer only some type of jumping work, if any, on the blade and that is it. Just a personal taste though.

Thanks Ray. Exactly. The work seems well enough executed, but the design is just too busy for my taste.

Looking Great!

The next pics try to use a plain white of "non busy" background. I think that will compliment the knife greatly. Thanks for posting
