finishing stabilized wood?

the title says it all, i just got some stabilized wood and was wondering how to finish it? as far as i can figure out sand it down to a fine grit and buff. does this sound right? i have a loose knit buffing wheel and green compound will that work?

You've got it; that's all it needs. It's as sealed as it is going to get and no oil will penitrate it.

Hmmm, stabilized wood should be sanded in steps , I usually go 120, 220, 400, 800, 1200 grit, Then buffed with the white compound. The green is probably too aggressive andwill eat into the wood itself. The buffing should be very light and you will end up with a glass like sheen if you do it riht.

You would definetly need a new wheel. The green will be in tje wheell permanently.

Steve's right, never put more than one buffing compound on a wheel. I mark my wheels with a black marker with the compound that it is to be used with.

For stabilized wood or plastic (Micarta, G-10, etc) a greaseless white compound followed by a pink compound gives the best results. Use a sewn buff with White Diamond or similar compound and a loose buff with the No Scratch Pink. These particular compounds are sold by K&G .....
